Walking through the beautiful small shops set up in the market near my new apartment, I was almost lost. The decorative items, the handmade accessories, the small idols of gods and goddesses, and the various astonishing things available in the market were really awe-inspiring and it was only then that I realised how different my new city was. While I was aware that I was moving to a new place, the reality of the amplitude of difference struck me only after my small tour to this marketplace where not only the available products were new to me, even the shop designs appeared to be relatively different.
With such a shock that I got, I hope you do not get it, and hence following is the list of things that you should explore or read about before moving to a new place:-
- Explore the cost of living, and the financial options that you have (new job, maybe) and balance out a rough sketch about your savings expectations, and the new reality.
- Know your neighborhoods (both residential and commercial ones) before moving in, and see how much they fit into your work-life balance scenario. You will still be moving in, but with healthy and real expectations.
- Inspect the transportation options around to know your commuting route and plan for daily activities. Moving into a new place without knowing the commuting roadmap can drain the energy out of you.
- Living without cable and/or internet in today’s world is quite difficult. If you are a person who is digitally active and who prefers digital media over offline one, you certainly should look into this and book this before moving in or before even finalising the place.
- Almost all of us love shopping and some things like groceries, milk, etc isn’t something that you can/should travel to get. Shopping arcades around your living place will definitely make your life easier and healthier.
- Use social networks to know the place better and get any utilities that you might not be aware of.
- Find groups of people that align with your interest so that you can meet the right people in a better way and make friends around. While not all of us are such social creatures, we all definitely need someone around to take care of things when we can not.
While all of the above are just things that you should be aware of before moving to any new place, jotting down all the things that you need and creating a plan of action accordingly for yourself and for moving your things will help you have a seamless experience. Although life these days is quite fast-paced, changing cities and places of living should always be as hassle-free as possible and knowing your new place and city beforehand will do you no harm. In fact, maybe take out a day or two to explore the hidden gems and useful pieces of information around the new place, to add positively to your transition.
With a hope that markets, shops, or shop designs do not shock you, but only add positively to your experience of moving places.
